According to a press release, the Spanish football league, LaLiga - one of the largest and most successful in the world, will be launching its own esports project. In an effort to reach millenial audiences, LaLiga will be expanding its brand, with the aim "to bring together a passion for football and the exciting world of eSports."
Presumably, this would mean a Spanish league for the FIFA game franchise belonging to EA Sports, although LaLiga also refers to its own in-house built mobile games and apps. By doing so, LaLiga would be following in the footsteps of the French football league (who launched the e-LIGUE 1), the Dutch football league (the edivisie), the Australian football league (having announced an e-League), the Portuguese football league (FPF), the Austrian Bundesliga's e-Bundesliga, and the USA's eMLS.
This marks the most famous football league ever to make an official entry into esports, rivalled by the NBA 2K eSports League in the USA.
Interesting times ahead!
